Consider a recent shopping experience and answer at least 3 of the following questions in relationship to what you're learning about engaging customers. Then rate the organization on its overall customer engagement on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being very poor and 5 being excellent.

• Have ever had your requests ignored by a salesperson? 
• When you want to see a specific item, does it bother you if a salesperson tries to distract you with an alternative rather than simply telling you that the store is out of, or does not carry, your request?
• Do you believe the salesperson is aware of you as an individual when you can almost see shutters in his/her eyes during the interaction?
• What do you do to get the salesperson's attention or to extricate yourself from the conversation when the salesperson is clearly not paying attention to what you are really saying?
