The Tripp family had opened a ski lodge on Hillside Mountain. During a school break, the LaPorte family-Peter, Lila, Rochelle and Tina-visited the lodge for a day of skiing. Perfect skiing weather made it possible for all of the LaPortes to enjoy the day. As they headed toward their room for the evening, Rochelle tripped and fell over a thick electrical cable that had gotten buried under the snow. Because of the complexity of her injuries, she needed to stay in a regional hospital for two weeks. During that time, the LaPortes stayed for two more weeks at the lodge, although they spent most of their time in the hospital, visiting with Rochelle.
