Major :International Business
For this assignment you will write a focused, 2 pages personal essay on a particular aspect of your studies (within your major) and how it relates to your professional aspirations. In other words, you will explore a specific element of your college education (e.g. your experiences in a given course in the major, why you chose your major, why you might have changed majors, an assignment that challenged you, an experience in your internship, etc.). This exploration must encompass a look towards the future (to the job/s you hope to someday acquire). Please refer to the Rubrics section of this syllabus for information on how this assignment will be evaluated.
Personal Essay
When evaluating the personal essay, the instructor will consider the following:
• Introduction: Does the introduction work to engage the reader through the inclusion of interesting/thought-provoking details and ideas? Does it provide critical background to establish context and scope? If there is a thesis in the introduction, is it clear, sufficiently complex, and significant?
• Organization: Is there a logical progression of ideas--and do they support the thesis of the essay? Does the writer transition effectively from one idea to another? Is each idea critical to the development of the essay's central idea? Is the work focused?
• Style and Content: Is the work honest and "relatable?" Does it employ a conversational tone and make use of narrative devices, such as dialogue, scene construction, and characterization? Does it address Lopate's notions of egotism and contrariety?
• Mechanics: Has this essay been carefully reviewed by the writer and outside readers for errors in grammar and syntax? Has this paper been carefully reviewed by the writer and outside readers for spelling errors? Has this paper been carefully reviewed by the writer and outside readers for errors in punctuation?
