What you have to do:
From Weeks 1-3 you must form into groups of 3-4 students.
You can form your groups during the online workshops in Weeks 1-3. Group roster sheets will be provided by your tutor and you must provide your tutor with the names of your group written on this group roster by the end of Week 3.
By the end of Week 5:
Each student must have done the following:
• Review the report writing resources provided in Moodle, including in the eReadingLists.
• Write an outline for the body of the report you are planning for your Written Assignment (Assessment 2). Your outline should consist of:
o Headings for each section (presented as nested headings with sub-headings)
o Single topic sentences that show the topic planned for each paragraph.
o Your outline should not exceed two A4 pages.
• Share and discuss your outline with your group members. Act on feedback you are given and give positive feedback to your group members.

Assessment - Individual Assessment
Has Collingwood Football Club demonstrated good corporate governance?
In Module 3 you will learn about the importance of good corporate governance if you want to build a good, ethical business. The Collingwood Football Club has just released an independent review into perceived entrenched racism at the club. The findings of the report are disturbing. You can find the report online here, or on Moodle here.
This assignment is not about racism. It is about how well (or how poorly) a professional sporting club has used corporate governance to ensure that the club conducts its business in an ethical manner and that the working environment is safe and supportive for staff and players. The task for this assignment is to read the report, do your research and come to a conclusion about what the report says about the state of corporate governance within the Collingwood Football Club. A good place to start is the Terms of Reference for the enquiry stated on page 3 of the report:
1. How effectively did the Club (including staff, Board and players) respond to allegations of racism?
2. Were there appropriate supports provided by the Club to respond to allegations of racism and ensure the cultural safety of all players, staff and Board members?
3. What changes in relevant policies, processes and systems have taken place and have these changes been effective?
4. Are the current policies, processes and systems currently in place adequate?
5. What changes are required to improve the Club's responses to racism in the future?
These are broad questions that involve many aspects of corporate governance. They are too broad to cover in a single assignment, so you get to choose which aspect of corporate governance you want to investigate.
In Module 3 you will learn that there are three broad principles for good corporate governance:
6. Transparency
7. Accountability and
8. Control.
You must select any one of these principles and write a report that tells me
• whether the Collingwood Football Club has failed or succeeded in terms transparency, accountability or control in its corporate governance, and
• how the Do Better report's recommendations support the principle of good corporate governance you have chosen.
What you have to do
11. Research and report on one principle of good corporate governance.
12. Analyse the issues and recommendations raised in the Do Better report as they apply to your chosen principle.
13. Conclude your report with a summary of how well the board of the Collingwood Football Club has followed your chosen principle, using the Do Better report as evidence.
