Imagine a population that has been in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for generations. Suddenly, mutations appear at a constant rate every generation. If this mutation rate continues at a constant rate in the absence of other evolutionary mechanisms, would you expect the population's allele frequencies to change quickly, slowly, or not at all? Why? How might the allele frequencies change if selection also occurred and a mutation was highly advantageous? Why?
