Question: A 70-year old woman develops hypopigmentated skin on her trunk of her body. Seeing these areas, she heads to her family physician, whom orders skin cultures. The physician's initial thought was ringworm, caused by Tinea corporis. However, upon culture, the laboratory reports no growth on any of the skin cultures and the skin scrapping. Upon further discussion with the patient, it was disclosed that the woman visited the armadillo races in Fort Worth, TX.
