Riverbend Orthopedics is a busy group practice with expanded services for orthopedic care. It now has seven physicians and a podiatrist, plus about 50 other employees. As its big, new clinic building, Riverbend provides extensive orthopedic care. Several technicians provide diagnostic medical imaging from basic X-ray to magnetic resonance imaging. The physicians perform surgery in their own outpatient surgery center with Riverbend's own operating nurses and technicians. Therapy is provided by three physical theraposts and one part-time contracted occupational therapist. Besides the actual medical care, the clinic has staff for financial management, medical records, human resources, marketing, and information systems/technology. Riverbend is managed by a president. SHe has asked you (a summer intern) for advice on how to design Riverbend's organization structure. Using information from this chapter, what would you suggest? Be sure to include internal and external coordination linkages. Justify your recommendations.
