Question

A group of nurses are noticing burnout and compassion fatigue within their department and want to improve retention and patient outcomes through EBP. They form a team, gather and appraise the evidence, and identify an intervention to pilot on their unit. When presenting the plan to senior leadership they are met with some resistance as the intervention is not felt to be sustainable by the organization's budget. The nurses take this feedback to modify their plan and meet administration's approval. The pilot project is implemented and outcomes of patient satisfaction, nurse retention, and reduced sentinel events are measured.
