1. Role play. It is the 1790s and party politics are forming within Congress. Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson are two of the most formidable politicians of the day. Based upon the issues listed in the document below, decide which of the two political parties (Hamilton's Federalist Party OR Jefferson's Democratic-Republican Party) you would support and why. Use three of the issues discussed to explain your own opinion and your overall view as to who you would support and why.

2. International politics was something new to American politicians in the years following Independence. Based upon the events between the 1789 and 1814 involving American relations with England and France, the two great European powers of the day, explain which of these two countries the U.S. should ally with and why. 3. As the United States expanded westward Americans came into greater contact with Native groups. Explain why Americans were expanding West and the Native reaction to this advance.

4. After reading the chapter, do some additional reading about a specific person, place or event related to the chapter.
