Governors are elected by voters from the entire state, so one would assume that Illinois has had many more Democrat rather than Republican governors. But this has not been the case. Illinois has had only eight years of Democratic governors over the last 30 years, every other year Illinois has elected a Republican governor. How can this be explained? How can a state that has more Democrats elect a Republican governor?
