Government Provides Incentive Program for Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEV)

The Minister of Transport, the Honourable Marc Garneau, announced in the 2019 federal budget how government investment would make it easier for Canadians to choose a zero-emission vehicle. A zero-emission vehicle, or ZEV, is a vehicle that has the potential to produce no direct tailpipe emissions. The government is not only providing support to expand the network of zero-emission vehicle charging and refuelling stations, it is also creating new incentives for people and businesses to purchase zero-emission vehicles. The government will provide between $2,500 and $5,000 to

consumers who purchase a ZEV.

For Critical Thinking

Overall, does it appear that the incentive provided to purchase a ZEV arises from the application of centralized command and control, the price system, or a mix of the two? Clearly explain your reasoning.
