GOING GREEN Google IT: Employee Bonuses for Being Green
Google employees can save money and earn bonuses by taking advantage of the company's green incentives. For instance, employees can save fuel costs by riding to work on Google's biodiesel shuttles. This is estimated to save 29,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. Employees can also use Google's GFleet car-sharing program that includes electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt. Google has also begun to tie bonuses to meeting sustainability goals-including energy reduction. This encourages employees to take an active role in increasing their sustainable behaviors. Additionally, the company itself acts as a model for employees to follow. Google contributed toward the largest fund ever for residential solar power in the form of a $750 million investment to Solar City.
