There are several direct references to bone or the skeleton in the Bible. The best known is Genesis 2:21-23, in which Adam was placed in a deep sleep, and God used a rib from Adam to create Eve. Have you ever wondered, why a rib? Why not the calcaneus, or sacrum (named after sacred)?

1. Speculate about why a rib might be a good candidate for construction of an equivalent human being based on what you've learned about the anatomy and function of ribs.

2. Consider that bone is made up of organic and inorganic material. What is the difference between organic and inorganic material as far as carbon atoms?

3. After a body decomposes, only the inorganic skeleton is left behind (skeletos = dried up). After reading Ezekiel 37:1-37, how does the illustration of the dry bones relate to spirituality?
