Questions: A lot has been made about data collection at PTI. Data from the retail operations ideally would be combined with data from the front desk/membership operations and data from the childcare operation. Then, PTI wanted workout data for the purpose of connecting with a personal trainer. On the one hand, integrating data from the different subsystems would be challenging - you'd either have to use one overarching system (ERP-style) or have all the data from the different operations exported to one place to perform all the data analytics (EAI-style).
Having all this data would be great from a marketing perspective - this happens in retail all the time through everyone's reward cards, email subscriptions, and snail mail coupons.
Generally speaking, is this level of data collection/aggregation necessary for businesses, given the complexity of the system that is involved?
Specifically speaking about PTI, is this something they should continue to pursue, or is this overkill given the industry and size of the company? (Hint: do a little comparison of development and implementation costs versus the level that this kind of a system will make PTI stand out from the rest of the gyms in the area.).
