1.  In the past, a chemical plant has a stated goal of producing an average of 1100 pounds of chemical per day. The records for the past year, based on 260 operating days, show the following: ≤ π Y = 1060 pounds per day. ≤ s Y = 340 pounds per day. The managers of the Ørm wish to test whether or not the average daily production diÆers from its stated goal.

a. Give the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses.

b. Compute the necessary p-value to test the hypothesis using the available data.

c. Construct a 90% conØdence interval for the sample mean.
