Probiotics and prebiotics have their role to play to better or cure a whole bunch of human health issues. Probiotics consist of a combination of live bacteria that is beneficial and/or yeast that naturally lives in your body. Some people may think that bacteria is bad, and it is something that makes you sick. However, two kinds of bacteria live in and on your body - good bacteria and bad bacteria. In this case, probiotics are good bacteria that help to keep your body healthy and in good shape. They help fight off bad bacteria when you have too much of it, which helps you feel better, help your body digest food, create vitamins, break down and absorb medications, and many more functions. The bacteria that live in and on your body are a part of your microbiome. A microbiome is made up of things called microbes. Beneficial microbes (probiotics) live in your gut, skin, lungs, mouth, and other places you can think of in your body. Probiotics can also be found in food items such as yogurt, cottage cheese, pickled vegetables, and miso soup. Probiotics also come in different forms as supplements including powders, liquids, capsules, or pills. There has been a large amount of research based on what probiotics can do for your body and even though there has been a possibility of positive outcomes, researchers are still working to find a definitive answer about how probiotics may help with various medical conditions. But there are some medical conditions where probiotics may help by increasing the number of probiotics in your body through foods or supplements such as diarrhea, gum disease, sepsis in infants, lactose intolerance, etc. This may vary between people, meaning that what works for one person may not work for another based on the probiotic taken.
Prebiotics are specialized plant fiber that acts as a food source for the good bacteria that stimulate growth among the preexisting good bacteria. When prebiotics is broken down by the microorganisms in your gut, different short-chain fatty acids are created based on the kind of prebiotic. These fatty acids aid in several things like providing energy to your colon cells helping with mucus production and helping inflammation and immunity. Prebiotics has a wide range of benefits such as improving how well your immune system functions, helping regulate bowel movements and enhancing your body's anti-inflammatory response. Prebiotics can be found in bananas, onions, garlic, oats, berries, and apple skin. Like probiotics, researchers are still working to figure out a definitive answer about how prebiotics may convey any health benefits. Probiotic foods and supplements add soldiers to your army, and prebiotics gives the soldiers the support they need.
Human symbiotic bacteria have a close relationship with diseases of different systems. One of the most prevalent disorders brought on by microbiota dysbiosis is infection. The human microbiota is critically affected by infectious disease and its treatment, and this influence affects how the infectious disease affects the human host. Invading pathogens invade the intestinal mucosa, which causes a potent inflammatory reaction and the subsequent translocation of intestinal microorganisms. Numerous studies have established the close connection between illness and microbiota dysbiosis and the fact that infection is linked not only to viruses but also to the microbiome. For instance, people with Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) have dramatically changed gut microbiotas. The development of the disease is also linked to microbiome disruption.
