Case Study:- People sometimes experience pressure to confirm to socially acceptable standards and expectations in order to better fit in when they feel excluded, different, or alone at work. This might be detrimental to both the worker and the company. Conformity causes the employee to lose a portion of who they are-the component that makes them special. They could feel their voice isn't respected and hold back on expressing opinions or a different point of view out of fear of being mocked or laughed at. I once worked at a restaurant where the supervisor thought that she had the power to do whatever she wanted when the boss was not around. When the boss would leave at five, she would stay and close the restaurant and make people do more then what was listed in their job description. She would start to think she own the place and a lot of employees including me had a problem with it. "Conformity occurs when group members move in the direction of what peers want or expect"(Dipboye,2016). In this situation it is best to just be yourself and do what is expected of you when on duty. Me and my staff then took it up with the boss and the boss would stay after and let her do her thing. After two weeks of watching and observing her the boss decided to let her go because she was miss using her power as a supervisor to control other people. Power can be a good and bad thing. It can be a good thing if it is given to the right people and a bad thing if it is given to bad people. I think power should be given to people who don't criticize people and someone who values others no matter what.
