Question

A 13-year-old girl presents to her doctor major weight loss even though she eating 3 meals a day. About 4 weeks ago she developed extreme thirst and hunger. She is getting up to use the restroom more than five times a night. Over the past 3 months she has felt generally unwell and noted pain in her back. She has lost 10 pounds in weigh over this time. She also has presistent headache associated with blurry vision when she wakes up. She is on no medication. She appears to be extremely thin and her muscles are weak. Her pulse rate is normal along with her blood pressure. Her mother has mentioned extreme mood swings and irritability the last 4 weeks as well.
