GEOP8010 Social Impact Assessment - Macquarie University
Invariably social impact issues are presented to and assessed by non-SIA specialists. They are also presented as one of a large number of documents. Making the point about social impact issues visually is often an effective short cut. This assignment provides an opportunity to explore ways of doing this.
Tasks
i This assignment requires the student to select a social impact issue and explain its importance to a non-professional audience.ii The presentation should comprise 7 power-point slides. The first (title) slide should state the issue.iii The following 6 slides should describe the social impact issue & demonstrate why it matters (is important).iv You may propose a solution to the issue, or make the case for an exercise of precaution, or simply describe the issue. Be clear about which of these you are doing.v The slides should be copied into a word document and, with an accompanying short description of their significance for the issue (600 words).
1 Clear statement of the social impact issue being addressed
2 Appropriate choice of visuals to document the issue
3 Clarity of explanation of relevance of each slide to the issue.
4 Accurate and sufficient referencing
