A testcross is performed to figure out the unknown genotype of an individual. Take for example a black rabbit. The fur color black is dominant over the white fur color. A black rabbit with unknown parents can be homozygous or heterozygous for that trait. You can figure out its genotype by crossing the rabbit with unknown genotype with a homozygous recessive individual (the white rabbit)
This is called a testcross.
1. What are the possible genotypes of the black rabbit (in this case a male)?
2. What is the genotype of the white female?
3. Consider all possible genotypes of the male and do crosses of these genotypes with the genotype of the female. Figure out the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring for all cases.
