Assignment : Genetic Disorder Group Research Project
Now that you know about primary scientific literature it's time to use those skills to research one genetic disorder of your group's choosing.
1. Check the People tab on Canvas to find your group members. Get together a do some research on genetic disorders.
2. Send a message via Canvas to Kelso with your groups top three genetic disorder choices - include B10160 genetic disorder in subject line. The sooner you get your choices submitted the more likely you are to get your first pick. Before beginning your research - make sure you have confirmation on your disorder choice.
3. Using the library journal data-bases I showed you in class find at least two primary scientific research articles (includes methods & an experiment) about your chosen disorder. If you are still unsure about finding primary scientific articles, please visit the research librarian for additional help using the data-bases on the library website.
4. Find at least one popular press article about your disorder. This could be in print or on the internet as long as it is supported with
primary scientific articles that are referenced properly.
5. Be prepared to give a ten minute (maximum) talk on the genetic disorder your group researched. This is an informal talk without
technology i.e. no power point; you can use the projector to show pictures or other supporting visual materials.
6. Your talk should include but is not limited to:
a. What is the disorder?
b. What causes it? Is it sex linked' Is it a single-gene disorder? Or is it caused by an abnormality in chromosomal number or
structure?
c. What are the symptoms & consequences of the disorder?
d. Is there a treatment? Is it life threatening?
e. Anything else your group finds interesting or of note about the disorder.
