Your law office has a new client, Mr. Smith, a chemical engineer, who was recently terminated from his job at ChemoCo manufactures many products and Mr. Smith believes he was fired because he reported to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that his company was improperly disposing of toxic waste into the nearby river. Mr. Smith was fired on the same day that the EPA contacted ChemCO regarding the allegation, ChemCo told Mr. Smith the company was downsizing, but Mr. Smith discovered that there was another engineer hired at ChemCo to fill his position, just two weeks after Mr. Smith was terminated. Your supervisor attorney thinks this may be a case of retaliatory discharge and he needs you to perform the initial research.
