The purpose of this case study is designed to assess the skills and competencies required for the Warehouse HR Manager role. This exercise may require you to make some assumptions.

It was brought to your attention that three warehouses within proximity are offering $1000-$2000 sign-on bonuses for new hires (General Warehouse Associates and Drivers). 

  • The DC needs 65 General Warehouse associates and 6 drivers. Yesterday, a Department Manager informed you that 8 general warehouse associates walked out to attend an open house at one of the nearby warehouses. Five of them did not return to work and were terminated for No Call No Show.
  • The staffing need is more significant in the Pick department, affecting pick % goals, and turnover has increased by 15% over the last two months. The Temp agencies are also challenged securing fulfillment requests for temporary employees. 
  • The warehouse leadership team needs your guidance to come up with a plan.

In your new role, you have just received your latest People Engagement Survey from your local DC teams and the feedback from the employees shows the area of "Leadership" falls below the average company benchmark as does the area of "Inclusiveness and Diversity" Given the importance of this you need to make it your top priority to improve on these areas for the next years survey. How will you take this on? Focus on key aspects.

  • How will you get the buy in of team members in prioritizing this focus above day-to-day operations?
  • How will you measure these areas and any improvements in the interim before the next survey in 12 months?
    • Communication: Communications are handled well when changes are made here.
