Myths exist in all culture. looking at gender roles geenerally accepted assusmputions about males and femals. Sociologies Erving Goffman observede social expectations for males in American contemporary life. In 1963 , he enumerated a list of characteristics that seemed to typify the ideal males during that time. Goffman states, '' in a important sense there is only one complete unblushing male in American a young, married, white, unban, northern, heterosexual,protesant,father,of college education, fully employed, of good complexion, weight, and hight, and a recrnt record himself during moment at least as unworthy, incomplet, and inferior''. Psychologist Mary Pipher argues America is poisoning girls with pressures to maintain difficult standards of beauty and bravior. She say, ''Adolescence is when girls experiencec social pressure to put aside their authentic selves and to display only a small portion of their girls.'' Do you see these definitions as accurate or inaccuate? Why or Why not ? What are some sepcific ways therough which these perceptions are perpetuated? Provide some sprcific examples.
