The Scenario:

You will be developing your submissions (a relational database model, and plan for implementation) around the following scenario: Birchwood Lane Schools currently records all student, instructor, and course data on paper. To meet state and federal requirements, Birchwood Lane Schools must implement an application system that records all student, course, and instructor data electronically. You will design a DBMS model and develop a strategy for implementation, which you will flesh out in a comprehensive written report.

Question:

This week, you are going to discuss the business case for the final project. A business case is an analysis and explanation of why a business is initiating a venture, initiative, project, or task. The business case typically includes a gap analysis that explains how the proposed initiative will address needs in current conditions, leading to a future state that is a significant improvement over the present. The “gap” is the difference between the current and future states

The final project for this course involves a DBMS project for Birchwood Lane Schools. In this group discussion, you will work with your group mates to consider the business case for this project. Explain your perspective on the need for the new approach to managing data via a database management system and modeling data according to standards. Why does Birchwood Lane Schools need a database? Next, begin to develop ideas for a relational data model that responds to the business case.
