Galileo and the Scientific Revolution: Cole, p. 522-533 (textbook)

"...the Bible is not chained in every expression to the conditions as strict as those which govern all physical effects; nor is God any less excellently revealed in Nature's actions than in the sacred statements of the Bible..."

Johannes Kepler used mathematics as he studied the orbits of the planets around the sun, but Galileo used a more practical approach.  What was his technique for his research?  What was studying, and what were his conclusions? Why did his work become so well-known so quickly? Eventually he was charged with heresy. How did he argue that his ideas were not a violation of basic Church doctrine?
