Assignment:
Shelly is the project manager at MedPharma, a global pharmaceutical company, coordinating the efforts of two research subgroups: BioChem and PharmacoDynamics. BioChem is responsible for the chemical formulation of a new diabetes medication, while PharmacoDynamics works on studying the drug's impact on human physiology. The two subgroups have been functioning separately for a while and have formed a group culture within themselves.
Recently, BioChem has been increasingly vocal about the lack of cooperation and information sharing from PharmacoDynamics, complaining that the lack of pharmacodynamic data is slowing their progress. On the other hand, PharmacoDynamics is concerned that they are being rushed by BioChem without being adequately considered in the decision-making process. The tension between these two subgroups has escalated, resulting in an environment of frustration and hostility, which threatens the timeline and success of the drug's development. Shelly is distraught and needs to get the two organizations and their leadership teams together. What can she do and say that would make a difference?
Q1. What could be the potential implications of the ongoing tension between BioChem and PharmacoDynamics on the overall project outcome and the functionality of the multi-team system at MedPharma? What should Shelly be doing to ensure tensions are released.
Q2. How can Shelly and the other members of MedPharma's leadership promote a more integrated multi-team environment and foster better communication and collaboration between these and other subgroups to avoid similar issues in the future?
