1. Where would you locate the fuel pump in the system so that the system will function correctly?

2.What size tubing would you specify from the pump to the engine?

3.Calculate the hA of the fuel pump.

4. If the pump is 30% efficient, how much power would it consume (in watts)?

A gasoline delivery system for an automobile consists of a tank, a pump, interconnecting tubing, a filter, a pressure regulator, and a distribution manifold going to the 4 injection nozzles, and a return line back to the tank.

The pump has a NPSHR of 10 feet. Max fuel temperature is 90oF. The fuel pump max flow is 4 gallons/hour. If it is located external to the fuel tank, the hL of the suction piping will be 2 feet and the static lift will be 0.5 foot. If it is located inside the tank there will be no suction piping. The fuel tank provides 1 foot of static head. The pressure drop across the fuel filter is 5 psi, maximum (when dirty) A pressure of 28 psig is required at the fuel nozzles. The change in elevation from the fuel tank (lowest level) to the fuel injection nozzles is 2.5 feet. Equivalent length of all tubing including bends and fittings can be assumed to be 20 feet. Pressure drop in tubing between fuel tank and injection nozzles should be less than 1 psi (excluding fuel filter)
