The Ainu population in Japan has the following observed frequencies for the human MN blood antigen system: MM = 17.9%, MN = 50.2%, and NN = 31.9%. Based on our discussion of this gene in class (and before making any calculations), would you anticiplate that the Ainu's genotypic frequencies are close to H-W proportion? Why or why not? Calculate the observed allelic frequencies. What would be expected genotypic frequencies under Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium? Do you think the Ainu are in H-W equilibrium for the MN locus based on your results?
