A restrictive practice is a practice that restricts the rights or freedom of movement of a person with a disability. Restrictive practices can be physical, chemical, or environmental. The NDIS Act 2013 defines five types of restrictive practices: Seclusion: This is the confinement of a person to a room or other enclosed space for a period. Mechanical restraint: This is the use of physical restraints, such as belts, straps, or other devices, to restrict a person's movement. Chemical restraint: This is the use of medication to sedate or calm a person. Physical intervention: This is the use of physical force to control a person's behavior. Environmental restraint: This is the use of the environment to restrict a person's movement, such as by locking doors or windows.
