Topic: Free Speech representing the views of the LEFT
1. Describe the topic in general- what is it about, how does it impact, what are the impacts....
2. Which perspective on the spectrum are you showcasing? What values and beliefs does Does that ideology hold?
3. In theory (that is based on what you know about the spectrum of the commonly held beliefs, what would that side of the spectrum say about the topic? If and where possible connect your ideas to the course content using vocabulary/making historical connections.
4. What about in practice? Discuss the complexities of how this topic is dealt with by that side of the spectrum in the real world. (For example: what the right should say according to our learning vs. what they actually say about it are often very different...if you believe in individual rights and freedoms above all else why restrict women's rights to abortion, religious freedoms, medically assistive end of life, same sex
marriage....)
5. Provide some real-world examples of this issue being handled by different countries. Consider; what is Canada doing, the USA, Scandinavian countries, more authoritarian regimes (where is it happening, what the government is doing, how people are responding....)
6. What is a modern liberalist approach to the issue? (aka. a middle approach)
7. Present some ideas as to how one can take action/get involved/support communities in dealing with the issue.
