Brandi Discussion Post If someone is ethical, they are concerned with upholding the law, treating others as they would want to be treated, and being honest and fair in situations no matter what the cost. The article states that, "Ethics is the investigation of matters of right and wrong, justice and injustice, good and bad, virtue and vice, rights and responsibilities.

Ethical issues can arise in personal decision-making, as well as when evaluating public policies, laws, and larger social institutions. When we take the ethical or moral point of view, we evaluate people, actions, policies, and so on, thinking of them as good or bad, just or unjust, right or wrong" (Gampel, n.d). In our personal lives we all go through life making decisions everyday and we have a choice to do good or evil or to choose right or wrong.

Sometimes these decision are really easy to make and sometimes they are not. Depending on what is going on in someone's life they might make a decision that they would not make normally because of the situation they have gotten themselves into.

In my opinion, there is more good than evil in the world but it can be difficult not to focus on the bad when our technology bombards us with social issues and world events that do not always depict the good going on in the world.

Academically it is important to not cheat and to not plagiarize and pass this off as our own work. Professionally it is important not to falsify company records, expose companies intellectual material to other companies, and to bribe others to gain business relationships. An ethical dilemma that was difficult for me was that a co-worker walked out of work and quit her job. We had worked together for many years on the same machine. We became good friends and has a good working relationship.

She decided that she was going to press sexual harassment on several of the guys in the factory to get money and this went to court. She was a person that flirted with all the guys, dated a couple of them, and gave out her number frequently to get dates.

There came a time when we had to be interviewed and in my opinion on the matter, she was not being harassed. It was difficult because it felt like I had betrayed our friendship but it was not right what she was doing so I could not go along with her charade. She lost the case and we never have ran into each other again.

General education courses helped influence my ethical values because they helped me understand what is right and wrong in a professional and academic setting when it comes to conducting research, writing papers, and how to communicate with others. An educated person has the responsibility to put into practice what they have learned in their daily lives and they then can teach others.

As the article states, "When people go to school, they receive education and thus become educated, however, these people must keep in mind that a major portion of the world receives no form of formal education" (The Blogxer, 2012).

Education is not something to take for granted because it is an opportunity that not everyone gets to have. As and example, in Kenya where I travel to every year on mission trips, many children only get to go to school until the eighth grade.

In order for a child to continue on their parents have to have the money to pay for school fees, many do not, so they go to work until they can get the money to further their education. Getting a higher education helps a person be able to change their situation in life.

Typically a degree will help a person be able to advance their career and be able to have higher paying jobs. Gampel, E. H. (n.d.).
