Mercury is an environmental contaminant and therefore soluble mercury nitrate must be removed from industrial wastewater. One removal technique is to react the wastewater with sodium sulfide solution to produce solid mercury(II) sulfide and sodium nitrate solution. You are working as a chemist at Water Authority of Fiji and you carried out a lab simulation to calculate the concentration of mercury nitrate. Suppose you take a wastewater sample and dilute it 10 folds and then 0.05L of this diluted sample required 0.02 L of 0.01M sodium sulfide.

- Write the balanced chemical equation for reaction between mercury (II) nitrate and sodium sulfide.

- Calculate the concentration of mercury (II) nitrate in the diluted sample.

- What is the concentration of mercury (II) nitrate in the original sample? Express the concentration in ppm.

- Comment on four possible sources of errors in the lab simulation that could result in erroneous result.
