Nacy is a social work supervisor of foster homes with a local child protection agency. Once a month, she completes home visits to ensure the homes remain in good order and to ensure that the foster parents are supported. It is not unusual for nacy to have to solve problems quickly as they arise. nancy has a good working relationship with the Goodall family who live in a rural setting just outside of the city. Sometimes when nancy visits the Goodall's she greets the foster children if they are around, but it is not part of her role to speak with them, as they each have their own assigned worker and are seen regularly. Mr. and Mrs.
Goodall report that they are more recently concerned that hannas, their 5-year-old foster daughter, has been increasingly isolating herself, fighting with the other children, and refusing to participate in daily routines at mealtimes and bedtime. Mr. and Mrs. Goodall report that Cheri'smother who calls every evening to speak with hannas, has been undermining their efforts to care for hannas. They report that hannas refuses to participate in daily care and basic needs, stating that her mother tells her not to cooperate because they aren't her "real parents". The foster parents are requesting to explore the possibility of cutting off contact between hannas and her mother. Cheri wants more contact with her mother and frequently requests to be returned. hannas biological mother does not want her daughter at home yet because she continues to maintain stability within her substance use recovery, but would like to visit hannas more often. hannas is currently in care on a temporarily voluntary contract with child protective services, an agreement established between hannas mother and child protective services after the agency became involved. nacy is feeling uncertain about how to best navigate this ethical dilemma.
