Assuming the following data, decide the underlying representations (UR) for each root and explain the alternation between [k] and [g]. To do so, follow these steps:

[grok] yellow -masc
[grog-a] yellow - fem
[rok] rock - masc
[rok-a] rock - fem

a. Write the environments for [k] and [g].

b. Formulate two hypotheses for the underlying representations of the two roots (hint: only one root alternates, for the other root, there is only one possible UR) and formulate a rule for each hypothesis.

c. Apply the two hypotheses to the data set and evaluate which UR- hypothesis is more likely to be true. Justify your answer.
