Give response:

Leadership takes many forms and varies depending on the organization and the individual. Early in the 1900's it was common to believe that great leaders were born that way, and had inherent qualities that made them successful and likely to be followed and respected (Baack, 2017 sec.8.1). However, it has since been studied and determined that some are not natural leaders, but become that way from experience and training. In my opinion the greatest style of leadership is a Servant Leader. Servant Leadership is described as someone who "stresses serving others, placing the needs of others above one's own, helping others learn, grow, and develop, and seeing a leader's primary role as service to employees, customers, shareholders, communities, and the general public" (Baack, 2017 sec.8.5). This style of leadership is a combination of inherited character traits like kindness, empathy, and selflessness as well as learned traits like modeling integrity, being a good steward, and identifying strengths in others to develop. While it is a natural instinct to desire acceptance from others a good leader knows that sometimes they may have to stand alone and champion an idea that may not have the immediate buy-in from employees.

Because my faith is important to me and forms who I am in all areas of my life, I identify with servant leadership in many ways. I believe that the best leader is willing to put others needs above their own and do the same work they expect their employees to do.
