The British devised many different ways to try to maintain control over and receive monies in the form of various taxes from the colonists in America. The problem with this was that many of the colonists felt this was taxation without representation and thought that their rights were being violated. It seems to be that had the colonists been represented by the British parliament they would have been more agreeable to these taxes however they were not. The British continued time & time again to get monies paid to them by the new states & aside from the loyalists they met with American resistance. According to our text, the American Revolution was born of two issues that were entangled with one another: one was a Colonial war for freedom & the other a revolutionary struggle for change in the American government & society. (Keene, et al, pg.119) What was really interesting & shows how the people were creating their own place was the fact that not only were the colonists resistant to unfair taxation from the British but also from their own new government that was taking advantage of their position to extort monies. Regulators in North Carolina had three main concerns regarding the current state of affairs they were living in according to an article I found on the subject by Abby Chandler. The first issue that troubled the regulators was the way in which the upper & lower houses of government were staffed. The colonies had two associate justices were appointed by the governor whom had been appointed in England. The lower house was elected but the only people who had a vote were white men who owned property. Other positions were also elected however the choices were also influenced by a persons social & political connections. Currency issues & unregulated tax collecting practices were the basis of the second concern. The third concern was a ruling that resulted in colonists having to pay taxes that supported The Anglican Church. (Chandler, 2016) . How do I comment on this?
