1. For each of the following situations, say what energy transformation occurs and draw an energy bar chart.

(a) A car, which is not running, is initially at rest at the top of a hill. The driver puts the car in neutral. It rolls down the hill. Rolling friction and drag are negligible. Consider the initial time to be when the car has just started rolling and the nal time to be when the car is at the bottom of the hill.

(b) A spring loaded gun is used to re a ball at an initial angle of 45. Consider the initial time to be the instant the spring begins to uncompress and the nal time to be the instant when the ball is at its maximum height.

(c) A ball is dropped from some height. It lands in soft, sticky mud so that it becomes stuck (i.e. it does not bounce). The initial time is the instant when the ball is dropped. The nal time is the instant when it has come to rest in the mud.
