Assignment: After reading the following short case study, you and your co-worker will make some plans for Mala to support Mala as she gets to know you, her classmates and the environment. Remember, your job as the teacher is to plan for her development - planning the experiences and environment so that it supports Mala's ability to explore, discover and express her gifts and challenges.
"Three and 1/2 year old Mala has been in our classroom full-time for three weeks. When her grandma drops her off in the morning, Mala enters with a smile on her face and rushes to the writing area where she begins her day. She seeks out teachers with non-verbal communication like smiles, waves and sitting near them at group time, snack or meals. She engages in group time by doing hand motions to songs but has not yet sung along. She sometimes sings songs quietly to herself or having the small dolls in the dollhouse talk to each other. She often sits and looks at books and shares the large reading chair with other children. She smiles when she and the other children turn the pages together. Mala watches the children in the dramatic play area and smiles but has not joined in. She joins in play experiences at the table and was very talkative when we did a cooking experience. She talked about cooking at home with her dads. She rides bikes outside skillfully and can peddle quickly. Mala does not speak to the other children or to the teachers often. She has chosen to be in the "Alone Time Space" several times during the day. She does can follow directions, listens to stories and choses to play along sidealongside the other children. When spoken to she listens attentively and often smiles and nods"
