Summarize This textbook focuses on employment law, which is a broad term that covers all areas of the employer-employee relationship. Despite the extensive scope of this p. 3field of study, employment law generally does not include coverage of the collective bargaining process, the process by which employers and the labor unions that represent their employees reach an agreement about the employees' terms and conditions of employment. Issues related to collective bargaining would be covered in the study of labor law, which focuses on the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and other state laws that regulate the rights of employees who are, or want to become, members of a labor union. Many employment law textbooks dedicate a number of chapters to labor law and provide information relating to the laws governing the relationship between employers and their unionized employees. For a number of reasons, the study of labor law is not covered extensively in this textbook.
