Question

A 70 yr. old female who sustained a ground-level fall while she was walking to the bathroom. She reported that her leg gave out and her left leg slid out; she landed on her left thigh and felt immediate pain in her leg. She was unable to stand, and she called EMS, who brought her to the ER for evaluation, where an x-ray showed she had a left distal femur fracture. 3 interventions performed that focused on your patient's priority problem/nursing diagnosis:

1. Pain Management: The first intervention was to manage the patient's acute pain. This involved administering prescribed pain medication, (Oxycodone Immediate release 5mg PO Q4hrs PRN ) as per the doctor's orders. I also monitored the patient's pain levels regularly to ensure the effectiveness of the medication.

2. Mobility Assistance: The patient had limited mobility as a result of her femur`s fracture. I was able to assist the patient with moving around, such as transferring from the bed to a chair to prevent further injury.

3. Patient Education: I was able to educate the patient about her condition and the importance of following her treatment plan. This includes taking her medications as prescribed, participating in physical therapy, and taking care of her wound. This is to empower the patient to take an active role in her own care and recovery. Evaluate your effectiveness on administering medications and your interventions. What were your strengths?
