Assignment Details
Leader: Sergey Brin
Business leaders may be chosen from anyone living or dead, of any gender, age or nationality; they may be a local business person with whom you are aware and familiar, or a more well-known business leader. Consider the following list of well-known business leaders: Meg Whitman, Galen Weston (Sr. or Jr.), Indra Nooyi, Richard Branden, Oprah Winfrey, Elon Musk, Sheryl Sandberg, Henry Ford, Arlene Dickinson, Sergey Brin, Kim Kardashian, Sam Walton, Martha Stewart. These leaders have taken diverse roads to achieve business success, but when one examines the leadership traits, behaviours, motivations, and influence demonstrated by these leaders, you may be surprised to see significant overlap and similarity in their leadership journeys. This assignment is intended to allow you to explore the leadership style and lessons of a range of business leaders.
Teams will need to develop a well-researched and professional presentation; content and narration of this presentation should address the points below. Teams will also need to develop a complementary one-pager to accompany their presentation. The specific format of your and presentation and supporting handout is entirely open to your interpretation. Consider the following as you develop your project:
1. Timeline & Biographical history
Highlight the personal and professional development of your business leader. (You are expected to consider the contributions of both experiences to the ultimate success of your chosen business leader.)
2. Leadership Evolution & Style
Focus should be on significant leadership accomplishments (both successes and failures), work history and events that played a role in shaping your business leader's leadership style.
Be sure to include comment on the specific traits, qualities and characteristics that contribute to your leader's "style" as has been discussed throughout the course.
Please note that both your handout and presentation will require a properly formatted Reference List. You may include references on the back of your handout, and on the last slide(s) of your presentation.
Most business assignments conform to APA standard referencing guidelines, but you may use any consistent and recognized format with which you are comfortable.
Expectations & Evaluation
Please keep in mind that while it is expected that your presentation will contain a substantial amount of critical information about your subject, your handout should not simply be a list of "headings" or highlights from your presentation; you are expected to complement your presentation with a supporting handout that includes interesting and relevant points and visuals, and that captures the most significant points of the subject as a business leader, and as an exemplar of relevant course themes.
Remember, your handout and presentation will be evaluated as a single unit--do not simply repeat the content of one in the other! Evaluation of this assignment will be based on how well you address the points in each of the areas highlighted above, as well as an overall assessment of the quality and creativity of your presentation and supporting handout.
Need Handout and 5 slide.
