1.  In public health, we focus on the population-level factors that impact health. Advertising and industry practices are highly-influential factors in health behavior choices, especially in regards to food and beverage consumption. Describe two specific examples of how advertising and industry practices contribute to unhealthy choices for food or beverage consumption (2 points). Then describe one regulation/policy that you believe should be implemented to limit the food and beverage industries from infleuncing health behavior choices.

2. The "Bad Sugar" video in the Week 13 folder discusses the high rate of diabetes in indigenous peoples in Arizona. Prior to viewing this film, what media coverage have you read, seen or heard about diabetes or about groups with high rates of diseases like diabetes? Do most media stories frame the issue in terms of social determinants or do they rely on genetic and behavioral explanations? Why? How do you think media stories influence policy decisions and what should be done?

3. Many people think of addiction as an individual problem, usually due to the inability of a particular person to appropriately control their behavior. Therefore, they often suggest education programs (especially for youth) to help prevent addiction. Given what you've learned about the neurobiology of addiction (Week 14), the limits of the power of education (Week 10), and the power of societal and corporate influences, explain why education is not enough to prevent addiction. Then, describe one public health strategy (not education or building awareness) that you believe would actually help prevent addiction in the United States.
