You may have noticed in our textbook, that the history/writings focus on Native Americans as well as Colonists. However, nothing is mentioned in the Mississippi K-12 curriculum or in our text about the 1619 slave trade in Virginia. I am going to attach an article, and then I would like you to give your honest opinion about the racism in the state of Mississippi. We recently had a prominent Mississippian who was asked to be on the 1776 project which would have invoked a revisionist history in our country. However, the project has been ended and will not move forward. This is a good thing because the ways of Hitler and the Holocaust were first to censor teachers and books that were available and to restructure the curriculum to cause hatred toward the Jewish population. Why do you think with our historical knowledge of early slave trade, that this has been left out of our curriculum? How do you feel about it?
