History, whether it's something that happened years ago or something from last week, shapes what happens in the days to come after. History has impacted my care because of nurses like Florence Nightingale. She first began using research to prove that nursing based on evidence provides a much better outcome for patients. Florence Nightingale was the first nurse to introduce scientific studies and statistical information to nursing. Through her studies she was able to prove that outstandingly more soldiers were dying deaths related to nonbattle versus dying in battle (Houser, 2018). Now many, many years later research has evolved and is heavily relied on. Using evidence is also what makes nursing a forever changing field, and we have to always be on our toes.
