SCENARIO:
Human resource is the most valuable resource in the organisation. The traditional school of thought has given more emphasis on business strategy and achievement through tight supervision however the modern school of thought has realised the importance of a soft approach and loose control to achieve high productivity and better results.

Since you belong to the modern school of thought you have been asked to prepare a report and a presentation to analyse the change of role from Personnel Management to Human Resource Management.

You have been requested to carry out research on an existing company which follows flexibility in the work process. This company should be located either in the UAE or in the UK.

TASK 1:
Individual report to

  • Discuss about flexibility at work
  • Explain about the labour market trends and flexibility
  • Review the model of flexibility to show how this might be applied in your chosen organisation
  • Examine the need for flexibility, types of flexibility giving examples of how they can be implemented
  • Identify the type of flexibility your chosen organisation follows
  • Discuss all the flexible working methods and issues related to flexibility.
  • Evaluate of the advantages and disadvantages of flexible working practices from both the employee and the employer perspective.
  • Analyse HRM from a strategic perspective and its implications for the role of the line manager and employees.
  • Evaluate how HRM in your chosen organisation impact on business performance

SCENARIO:

Discrimination at work has become a common topic of discussion among the employees. Equal opportunities legislation has done much to raise awareness of the issue. You are a research student doing research on a topic called 'Issues in International Human Resources' your supervisor has asked you to produce an information guide on discrimination in employment, equal opportunities, the legislative framework, managing diversity and HR practices and issues.

TASK 2:

  • Produce an Information Guide for managers that:
  • Describes the forms of discrimination that take place
  • Reviews 'how the legislative framework and any proposed changes relating to discrimination in the workplace can be applied by an organisation
  • Explains the range of current initiatives and practices which focus on equal opportunities in employment

  • Critically evaluates different human resource practices in the workplace related to occupational health, accidents at work, ill health at work costs and absenteeism
  • Evaluates the impact of global isation on issues such as human resource planning such as workplace counseling, ergonomics, alcohol and drug abuse, stress management
  • Reviews the impact of multi-culturism, e -recruitment, flexible benefits, work -life balance and the practices HR professionals can employ to manage a culturally diverse workforce.
