Question 1
This question is meant to be a demonstration of your understanding of the concepts and theories associated with emotional intelligence.
THE SCENARIO: You have been experiencing a rough day and have decided to take a break in the Student Center with a medium Jaffe. While waiting in tine the two people ahead of you begin to argue (loudly with passion) and in frustration Ernie accuses Bert of being an insensitive, idiotic puppet. To which the Bert responds angrily "That shows how much you know because in my INMGT 400 class I scored 124 on an on-line ID test and 15 out of 16 on an ED test; and besides (with increasing vocal volume), just because I think poor people should quit complaining and just get a job like the rest of us, doesn't make me insensitive!" At which point the Ernie makes a sound of disgust, steps out of line, and quickly walks away without saying a word (but making an impolite hand gesture) while the Bert shouts "Look who is being insensitive now!!"
THE QUESTION - Explain the flaws in Bert's understanding of emotional intelligence
Question 2:
This question is meant to be a demonstration of your understanding of the theories associated with leadership, and specifically those associated with values, attitudes, and perceptions
THE SCENARIO: You are still sitting in the Student Center, now with a classmate, prolonging the life of a medium lotte, when you and your classmate overhear one faculty member say to another 'At the senior management level you get hired for your competence and fired for your personality' Your classmate says he/she believes that he/she has a competent personality and would be a successful at the senior management level without even trying, in fact he/she says he/she knows this to be true because he/she just took the MBTI and has a perfect 'high-high' score.
THE QUESTION - Explain, from the perspective of leadership attitudes, perceptions and perceptual biases why your classmate probably won't be a successful senior-level manager.
Question 3:
This question is meant to be a demonstration of your understanding of the concepts and theories associated with leadership roles and styles.
THE SCENARIO: During his 6-month internship at Koolplacetowork (KPW Inc.) Preston so impressed his boss that he was offered a full-time position pending a successful completion of his last semester and the awarding of his degree. Before he left to go back to school his boss told him, in great detail, about a project that he wanted Preston to take the lead on as soon as he finished school and officially started as an employee. The project involved redesigning the employee parking area in preparation for a building expansion, and because it impacted every employee, the project team would be comprised of a representative from each of the eight different departments. A week before Preston started his new job, his boss called an informal meeting of the newly formed parking project'team (all except Preston who is still at school) and explained to them 1) the overall purpose of the project, 2) who Preston was (although many of the team members had met him during the internship, none had ever actually worked with him), 3) why he (the boss) had selected Preston (a new and inexperienced employee) to lead this project, and finally, 4) requested that they help in assisting and coaching Preston to a successful completion of the project.
THE QUESTION - If you were Preston getting ready to start this new project with a new team, explain what your strategy -regarding Leadership styles and roles - for getting this project off to a successful start. DO NOT explain how you would design or manage the project.
