Finite Elements for 2D Triangular Elements
Derive and explain the following for the triangular elements:
• quadratic basis,
• quadrature.
Implement the quadratic basis using the template. Note three FIXMEs in the code:
• adding the size of the element space,
• adding the basis,
• adding the derivative of the basis.
Feel free to ignore gene rate_quad rat ic and applybc functions.
Write-up
Write down your schemes in the tex. If your implementation doesn't work, we want to see that you tried using the right scheme.
Plots/Tables
Demonstrate how your coded-up schemes behave when you change delta t and delta x. Do you get the expected behavior (order of accuracy?)
When you compare your results against the exact solution, use norms (2, inf) and report the relative error. No eyeball norm this time.
For each plot/table, provide a paragraph discussing the results.
Code
I will check your code, so please make sure it runs. It does not need to be perfect, but it should be able to reproduce the results that you report.
If your code isn't working, write down what you think is wrong and how you tried debugging it. This will get you extra points that you otherwise would not get.
Submit your code as a .py file. If you work in jupyter notebooks (.ipynb), you can export them as .py.
