1. Use Table II of App. A to simulate the arrival and departure of planes to the airport described in for 10 more one-minute periods. Based on these data. Approximate the average number of planes on the ground at a given time by finding the arithmetic average of the values of Z simulated in the experiment.
2. Consider the random variable X, the number of runs conducted to produce an unacceptable lot when coating steel tubes (see Exercise 25.) X is geometric with p = .05. Divide the 100 possible two-digit numbers into two categories with numbers 00-04 denoting the production of an unacceptable lot and the remaining numbers denoting the production of an acceptable lot. Simulate the experiment of producing lots until an unacceptable one is obtained 10 times. Record the value obtained for X in each simulation. Based on these data, approximate the average value of X. Does your approximate value lie close to the theoretical mean value of 20? If not, run the simulation 10 more times. Is the arithmetic average of your observed values for X closer to 20 this time?
