Samsung electronics announced. . . that it would recall 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones after finding a flaw in the battery cell that resulted in fire.” (Fowler, S., & Mozur, P., 2016) The recall for Samsung means a drop in consumer confidence for its products, which will also result in a drop in profitability. Yet, the bigger question is, how could this recall have been avoided? What steps could have been taken to ensure consumer safety? The answers lie in the research of the product components. Research is necessary to ensure the safety of products, and the public that will use them. Considering the cost of the recall for Samsung, it will not soon forget the value of research.
